Pregnancy Termination
DC Abortion Clinic Performing Safe Procedures
Our health center, Washington Surgi-Clinic, is a DC abortion clinic that performs surgical and non-surgical abortions for women who are in the earliest stages of pregnancy to those who are up to 26 weeks pregnant. These are first- and second-trimester pregnancy terminations. Our abortions are both legal and safe, and our medical staff treats each patient with the respect and dignity she deserves. We also protect the confidentiality of each patient who comes to our clinic.
Our first-trimester abortions can be performed for pregnancies of up to 12 weeks. Meanwhile, our second-trimester abortions can be performed for pregnancies of 12 to 26 weeks. Our patients can choose from a number of different anesthesia methods for their abortions.
Here are details on the different types of abortions we perform:
- First-trimester surgical abortions – A surgical abortion uses the suction dilatation and curettage (D&C) method. In this method, the contents of the uterine are carefully and gently suctioned out using disposable plastic uterine curettes that are sterilized and used only once. This type of abortion can only be performed safely if the pregnancy is clearly visible in an ultrasound examination, which I usually at 5 weeks by menstrual age (or 3 weeks following conception).
- First-trimester chemical abortions – If a woman is less than 6 weeks pregnancy by menstrual age, she has the option to receive a chemical abortion. This non-surgical option uses medications to terminate the pregnancy and expel the uterine contents in a way that resembles a miscarriage. This method may be ideal for some patients and not recommended for others.
- Second-trimester surgical abortions – This type of abortion is usually performed in 1 to 3 visits. In the first part of the pregnancy termination, sterilized laminaria sticks are used to gradually dilate the patient’s cervix. The patient will typically return to next day after the laminaria sticks are inserted. In the second stage of the abortion, the dilatation and evacuation (D&E) method is used. This is known as the safest method for terminating second-trimester pregnancies. The procedure is performed using the guidance of ultrasound.

Furthermore, we make sure to thoroughly inform the patient of her abortion options, the associated risks and benefits, and abortion alternatives. Each patient at our clinic receives personalized care.
Recovery and Support
There may be some pain and discomfort associated with pregnancy termination, which may be followed by intermittent bleeding. In addition to physical side effects, you may have a number of emotional reactions, so it is important to have family or professional support to help you work through your feelings. It is possible to get pregnant very soon after an abortion, meaning that you should explore birth control options with your gynecologist.
